FAQ

Is Trisha Howell a physician (MD)?

Trisha is NOT an MD. Trisha is a registered dietitian (RD), highly specialized in functional medicine. She passed the board certified physician’s exam in functional medicine with the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) becoming a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (IFMCP). She is the only one in Jacksonville, Florida and is 1 of 5 in the state of Florida. She does an extensive patient history, reviews labs, advanced specialty labs, creates a timeline and matrix to organize and evaluate 7 possible core clinical imbalances to then provide protocols for reversing and preventing chronic illness. She cannot discuss or prescribe medication. You will need to get the advise from your primary MD.

Do you take insurance?

No, we do not accept insurance. We do not file insurance paperwork on your behalf. We are a fee for service practice and can provide a detailed receipt for services performed for you to submit to your insurance carrier. No guarantees that your insurance will cover the services.

Do you see patients in person?

Smart Wellness is a 100% virtual practice. We meet via Zoom for prescreening, initial and follow up appointments. Can meet by phone for follow-ups if requested. In person requires special arrangements. Please reach out if interested in person consultations.

Do you do functional medicine specialty labs?

Yes we do specialty labs such as stool, nutrient deficiencies, heavy metal, oxidative stress, organic acids, hormones, mold, genetics and functional immunology and autoimmunity testing. Some tests can be performed at home with specialized kits to collect urine, saliva or stool. Others are done at a local lab company. All kit instructions and interpretations will be reviewed at time of initial and follow-up visits. Some labs are part of the packages and others are an additional cost if requested. For a complete list of labs go to “Programs” page.

What are the cost for your services?

Prices are not discussed until after the prescreening process. You will need to fill out the prescreening forms by clicking the “Get Started” button on home page AND then proceed to book a consult with Trisha to get clarification of your current health needs and what you hope to achieve. During the call, Trisha will assess the readiness to change and determined if there is a therapeutic relationship established. She meets you were you are at. The patient has to be highly participative in their own health journey. If chosen as a patient you will receive tremendous support and expertise from a board-certified functional medicine practitioner. It is truly a game-changer.
